World CapitalsHow the daily map challenge works
At 00:00 UTC, a fresh set of five cities arrives for everyone. The selection mixes capital and other cities, so the challenge goes beyond naming countries' capitals.
For each city, explore the map, drop your pin and adjust it before locking in. Your score depends on how close the pin is to the city's actual location. Each round is worth up to 200 points, making 1,000 the maximum daily total.
You have one official attempt per day. You cannot replay today's Daily for a better official score. Everyone plays the same cities, giving the leaderboard a shared challenge to compare.
You do not have to land exactly on the city
The score falls smoothly with distance. A guess about 50 km away earns roughly 197 points; at 300 km it is about 179, and at 1,000 km about 125. An approximate sense of the region can still earn points, while a more precise pin earns more.
The free browser practice round uses the same distance curve with capital-city questions. It is a separate demo and does not count as your official Daily attempt in the app.
See your geography improve over time
Your Atlas brings together the pins you have dropped in the Daily, coloured by how close they were. It gives you a way to spot regions you know and places worth revisiting.
Consecutive Daily completions earn permanent Passport stamps. The Daily has today and weekly leaderboard standings, so you can compare results as well as build your own routine.
What can you play after today's challenge?
Practise with the capital and flag quizzes, try Survival's three-life challenge, or work through a regional World Tour route. Study lets you look up countries and capitals and find them on the map.
If you are building your geography knowledge, explore the world capital atlas. Then come back for tomorrow's five cities. World Capital Cities is available for iPhone and iPad.
